Ingredients Matter

Throughout this blog I will be posting recipes, and I just wanted to put this out there for future reference.

I am constantly looking at labels in the grocery store. I am never looking at the calories though; I am looking at the ingredient list. INGREDIENTS MATTER. Our cells are literally created from the foods that we eat each and every day. If we are feeding our bodies low quality, toxic foods then we are not giving our bodies a fighting chance. We will be setting our bodies up for failure and promoting disease vs. health and longevity.

When I post a recipe that says ground burger, try and use venison or 100% grass-fed beef for example. When a recipe calls for a can of cream of chicken, grab the organic version to avoid seed oils and modified ingredients. If you see heavy cream listed, consider buying milk from a local dairy farmer. I could go on and on about ingredients, but the main point is if you are able to – buy the higher quality product with a shorter ingredient list. Your wallet might feel it with the initial changes you are making at the grocery store, but your body will thank you in the long run and could very well save you money at the doctor’s office in the future.

I use quality ingredients most of the time but let’s be real, adulting is hard and it sometimes isn’t always doable. I do the best I can every day but am learning to give myself some grace when I am exhausted from motherhood or from my overthinking tendencies.

Sometimes (at least for me) it is far less stress on my body to just use something occasionally that has an awful ingredient in it, like seed oils, than to worry about having the perfect ingredients 100% of the time. I personally try and stick to the 80/20 rule. Where roughly 80% of the time I choose whole foods/quality ingredients and the other 20% of the time I give myself grace. Just remember, doing the best you can with where you are at is a great step in the right direction. 😊
